This Green House

Abstract:
This article reports on green homes and sustainable design for dwellings. The article discusses various aspects of these homes, noting how they conserve energy and protect the environment. Large windows can be used for natural light and solar warmth in the winter, and motorized shade systems can help keep homes cooler in the summer. Eco-cement saves energy in production and absorbs carbon dioxide as it dries. The use of low-flow toilets conserves water and energy. Information is also provided on harvesting rainwater for garden use and using chipped wood waste to prevent erosion in yards.

Green DNA

abstract:
The article focuses on the importance of the environmental impact of electronic products for Philips Consumer Electronics (PCE) in the U.S. According to the author, sustainability has been the DNA of PCE ever since Anton and Gerard Philips founded the company and build schools, houses and hospitals for employees. He added that the company has introduced a structured approach to express environmental aspects via five green focal areas such as weight, hazardous substance and energy. Moreover, the products have been benchmarked either against predecessors or commercial competitor products from the market to ensure that Phillips products can make claims toward better environmental performance.

Testing for tomorrow

abstract:
The article focuses on the emergence of sustainability tests, whose aim is to ensure that new initiatives are environmentally friendly. Natural resources are being used by humans at a pace that is beyond what the planet can sustain. This has led to the development of explicit sustainability tests for assessing new environment protection plans. The author describes measures that are being taken to ensure a positive impact on the environment. City officials are trying to make urban life more sustainable. A sustainable agricultural model is being adopted by promoting local food. It is stated that earlier, the food system and cities were lacking in ecological protection measures and had failed the sustainability tests.
